Thank you for your interest in supporting the Zoological Society of Japan.

We are members of the animals living on Earth. Animals live in mutual interaction with many other living things, such as bacteria, unicellular organisms, and plants. All of these organisms are part of the Earth and make up the ecosystems that sustain life. Formed through hundreds of millions of years of repeated evolution and fluctuation, this ecosystem has long supported Earth, the \"planet of life.\" We are moved and healed by the sight of beautiful insects, the flapping of birds' wings, and the lovable nature of animals. Looking at our everyday dining tables, seafood and meat, including processed products, are indispensable to our diets. In this way, we receive many benefits from numerous animals, which are built upon ecosystems that include other living things.

Climate change caused by human activities has disrupted long-maintained ecosystems, putting many animals at risk. Many animals have already disappeared from the earth, and the number of extinct animal species is projected to increase even more rapidly. How can we sustain this animal world for a long time? As you know, international efforts centered on the United Nations are underway to achieve a sustainable society. The most important thing is for each and every one of us living on this earth to be aware of climate change and to prevent any further deterioration of the earth's biological environment. In addition, it is necessary to promote zoology as a basic science and to understand the life activities of all animals living on this earth.

The Zoological Society of Japan is a public interest incorporated foundation established in 1878 with the aim of promoting and developing basic research and animal science. It is one of the oldest academic societies in Japan. For nearly 150 years, it has conducted basic research and outreach activities on all kinds of animals, ranging from protozoa to marine animals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals. Its members include researchers and students from universities and research institutes, as well as teachers from elementary, junior high, and high schools. The society aims to foster an understanding not only of animals with which we are familiar, but also of those rarely seen by the general public, and it carries out activities toward that end.

To understand the physiology and behavior of the animals inhabiting this Earth, the environment and ecology surrounding them, and their relationship with us humans, academic societies are indispensable both as a venue for information exchange among researchers supporting basic research and as a place for the next generation who will shoulder the future of the world to play an active role. To fulfill this role, the Zoological Society of Japan continually considers the interface between basic science and society, and pursues its activities. We have also been quick to address gender equality, as well as outreach and educational support activities related to zoological science.<\/p>\n

The Zoological Society of Japan is a public interest incorporated association. Its operations are sustained by donations from everyone, which are essential for the continuation of the society.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n
