Chugoku-Shikoku BranchMessage from
The Chugoku-Shikoku Branch was established in 1948 (Showa 23), shortly after the war, and the first branch meeting was held in Hiroshima Prefecture. Although it was a relatively large branch consisting of 86 members from the beginning, the membership has grown steadily and currently stands at approximately 250 members. In 1952, interaction with the Botanical Society began through joint abstract collections and social gatherings. In 1956, it officially became a joint meeting of the Zoological Society and the Botanical Society. Starting the following year and continuing to the present day, it has taken the form of a joint meeting of three biological societies, together with the Chugoku-Shikoku Branch of the Ecological Society, which was founded that same year. In addition to providing a venue for research presentations by members of the three societies, in recent years it has also become an important venue for research presentations by high school students. The Young Researcher Outstanding Presentation Award has been established in the hope of encouraging young researchers. We would greatly appreciate the participation of students and researchers in the activities of this branch, as well as the support of those with a broad interest in zoology.
