1. Purpose of the Academic Award
The Zoological Society of Japan, a public interest incorporated foundation, is widely calling for nominations for the following awards.
The Society Prize is awarded each year to approximately two researchers (individuals or groups) who have achieved academically exceptionally beneficial results that have made significant and remarkable contributions to the progress and development of zoology.
2. Award Recipients
Assume that you are a member of this academic society.
3. How to Apply
- Applications are made through candidate nominations, but both self-nominations and nominations of others are welcome.
- Please submit electronic files of the recommendation letter for the Academic Award or Encouragement Award candidates (using the designated form available for download on the Zoological Society website) and representative reprints of papers (up to 5) to the Academic Award Selection Committee using method (3).
- Documents must be submitted via the Academic Awards Application System on the Zoological Society website. Please access the URL below, fill in the required information, convert all application documents listed in (2) into PDF format, and upload them.

4. Application Period
From Tuesday, January 1, 2019, to 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 31, 2019.
5. Notification of Selection Results and Award Presentation
- The selection is made by the Academic Prize Selection Committee, and decided through deliberation by the Board of Directors based on the committee's recommendation of award candidates. The announcement of the winners is scheduled for mid-June.
- The selection results will be notified to both the nominator and the winner.
- Winners are required to prepare a summary of their awarded work to be published on the society's website.
- Winners will receive a certificate and a supplementary prize of 100,000 yen.
- The award ceremony will be held at the 90th Osaka Convention (Location: Osaka City; Dates: September 12–14, 2019). In addition, winners will be required to give a winner's lecture following the award ceremony, so please be sure to attend the annual convention. If you know in advance that you will be unable to attend, you will not be eligible for the award. Please note that travel expenses related to attending the annual convention must be covered by yourself.
