NIBB Training Courses: Announcement of Two Programs

Members of the Zoological Society

Here is the information from the National Institute for Basic Biology regarding bioimaging-related training courses currently accepting applications (2 courses).
I would greatly appreciate it if you could forward this notice to anyone who might be interested, as well as to your institution or laboratory.

1. Practical Training in Microscope Optics from the Basics (OPT)
Lecture and Practice on the Fundamentals of Microscopy Optics: Hands-on Practice on Microscopy Optical Systems from the Basics (OPT)
Two courses will be held at the National Institute for Biology (Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture).
Monday, December 14 – Wednesday, December 16, 2026: Beginner Level: 3-Day Lecture and Practical Training Course (Formerly OPT)
Thursday, December 17 – Friday, December 18, 2026 Intermediate Level: 2-Day Course with Lectures and Confocal Microscope Hands-on Training
In the beginner-level lectures, a wide range of topics will be covered, including light, lenses, detectors, illumination, fluorescence imaging, confocal microscopy, super-resolution, and sample preparation. In the practical sessions, participants will learn about microscope optical systems using Thorlabs Japan's microscope assembly kit.
In this year's newly launched intermediate course, the focus will be on learning how to choose a microscope suited for research purposes and acquiring essential knowledge for the practical use of confocal microscopes. During the hands-on sessions, participants will use the LSM980 and STELLARIS to observe fluorescent beads, biological samples, and cultured cells while discovering optimal observation methods.
The application deadline is Saturday, October 31 at noon. Please refer to the website for details.

2. Biological Image Analysis Training Course (BIATC)
The training course for biological image data analysis, designed to learn how to use the image analysis software ImageJ, will be held from Tuesday, December 8 to Thursday, December 10, 2026, at the National Institute for Basic Biology.
In this course, primarily targeting researchers in the biological sciences, we provide training on the basics of image processing and analysis.
It will be conducted with hands-on practice. Also, the minimum programming required in the image processing process.
Regarding technology, we will hold a practical training session using ImageJ's macro functions as the subject.
The application deadline is Friday, October 16. Please refer to the website for details.
