Reason for winning
Dr. Takuma Takanashi analyzes animal behavior from a broad perspective, ranging from sensory physiology to information processing. In particular, his research analyzing the vibrational senses of insects and their biological functions is outstanding. He experimentally demonstrated that the Japanese pine sawyer, a pine pest, exhibits motor arrest and avoidance behaviors in response to low-frequency vibrations, thereby providing new ideas for pest control. His uniqueness is exceptional, and this series of studies is entirely his own. The Zoological Society of Japan proudly nominates him for the Narishige Zoological Science Award, as his work perfectly aligns with the criterion of "unique research" stipulated in the award's selection regulations.
