Announcement of the 92nd Annual Meeting of the Zoological Society of Japan in Yonago (First Circular)

Dear Members of the Zoological Society of Japan

We are pleased to announce that the 92nd Annual Meeting of the Zoological Society of Japan will be held for three days from Thursday, September 2 to Saturday, September 4, 2021, primarily at the Yonago Convention Center Big Ship in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture.
Originally, we proceeded with preparations to host the 91st tournament in 2020, but due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, we were forced to abandon holding it. With your understanding, we are now able to make a fresh start and host the 92nd tournament in Yonago City. First of all, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone.

Yonago City is a regional city located in western Tottori Prefecture. Note: Yonago Kitaro Airport is also well-equipped, allowing visitors to arrive from Tokyo in just over an hour by air. In addition, taking the Sunrise Izumo, Japan's only remaining regular sleeper limited express, from the Kanto or Kansai region at night will get you to Yonago by the next morning. Furthermore, there is an extensive network of highway buses from various directions.
The convention venue is about 40 minutes away from Yonago Kitaro Airport by limousine bus or the JR Sakai Line, and about a 3 minutes' walk from JR Yonago Station (for details on accessing Yonago City and the venue, please check "Venue Information & Access" under "Information for Participants" on the convention website). In addition, ample parking is available at the venue.

Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, looks out to Mt. Daisen, the highest peak in the Chugoku region, to the south. Tottori Wagyu beef, raised at the foot of the mountain, is an exquisite delicacy that has even been selected as having the best meat quality in Japan. To the north is Sakaiminato, one of Japan's leading fishing ports, offering an abundance of seafood. From Daisen G-Beer to locally brewed sakes that have won numerous awards, there is no shortage of culinary delights. Furthermore, during the tournament, it is the harvesting season for juicy 20th Century pears. Please take this opportunity to enjoy the food of Tottori Prefecture.
Kaike Onsen, which is about a 15-minute drive from the tournament venue, is also available, featuring numerous hot spring ryokan and day-use bathing facilities. It might be a nice idea to relax in the hot springs after participating in the tournament (for details on access to Yonago City and the tournament venue, please visit "Accommodation and Area Information" under "For Participants" on the tournament website).
Aside from an academic conference, the Sanin region is a place one rarely gets to visit. Please take this opportunity to fully enjoy Tottori and Yonago in Sanin.

Please note that while the preparatory committee is diligently making preparations with the hope of holding the event locally, please understand that depending on the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the local event may be canceled and switched to an online format.

Note: Tottori Prefecture has two airports: Yonago Kitaro Airport (Yonago Airport: Sakaiminato City) and Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport (Tottori Airport: Tottori City). Yonago and Tottori are about 100 km apart, so please be careful not to confuse them. Please use Yonago Kitaro Airport when attending the event.
