Discussions on establishing a full-fledged national museum of natural history in Japan began early in the postwar period and have continued uninterrupted to this day. Building upon the discussions held in the Science Council of Japan, we have initiated preparatory activities for the establishment of a national museum of natural history and, with the support of Okinawa Prefecture, are intensifying our efforts toward its realization.

With the launch of this newly published journal, we aim to deepen, broaden, and document the discussions surrounding the establishment of the National Museum of Natural History. The inaugural issue is designed to spark interest even among those encountering the term "natural history" for the first time, while also providing a comprehensive overview of the preparation activities undertaken thus far. We kindly ask you to help share this publication so that it may reach a wide audience.
