Basic Technology for Gene Expression Imaging Using Pleurodeles waltl: A Technical Workshop on the Simple HCR Method
Aiming to establish the easily-bred Iberian ribbed newt as a model organism, we have been working on the establishment of inbred lines, the development of efficient genome editing methods, and the enhancement of genetic information. On the other hand, in urodele amphibians including this species, visualization techniques for gene products, represented by in situ hybridization, had not been established. However, by introducing the Hybridization Chain Reaction (HCR) method, which has seen remarkable development in recent years, it has become possible to detect mRNA with high sensitivity. Therefore, in this course, in addition to hands-on training in the HCR method using the Iberian ribbed newt, we aim to further improve the HCR method—from mRNA detection to imaging—through workshop-style discussions with multiple researchers, including Dr. Tsuneoka, the developer of the HCR method.
Dates: Wednesday, March 11 – Friday, March 13, 3 days (field training)
Location: National Institute for Basic Biology (Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture)

Target Audience: Members of universities and public research institutions (technical staff and students are also eligible). *Lectures and presentations will be conducted in Japanese.
・Researchers studying amphibians such as Iberian ribbed newts and clawed frogs
・Those who do not study Iberian ribbed newts, but are interested in HCR
- Those who are already using the Iberian ribbed newt as a research subject and wish to start HCR
