To the members of the Diversity Promotion in Science and Technology Associations (or: To the members of the Liaison Association of Gender Equal Participation in Science and Universities)
Thank you for your continued support.
Now, Dr. Shigee Sasaki, who serves as a committee member for the Expert Panel on the Formulation of the 6th Basic Plan, has informed us that the public comment period for the 6th Basic Plan for Gender Equality has begun.
https://www.gender.go.jp/kaigi/senmon/6th/ikenboshu.html
The item "Promotion of Gender Equality in Science, Technology, and Academia," which was included in the 5th Basic Plan for Gender Equality, has disappeared. Thanks to Professor Sasaki's efforts, the title of the second field was changed to "all" and the item "Academic Fields" was included within it, but my impression is that many challenges still remain.
The issues concerning fixed-term researchers, which I clarified at the liaison meeting of academic societies, are not mentioned. Regarding the numerical targets, it appears they will be included after reviewing public comments, so I kindly ask you to actively submit your opinions.
For your reference, I have also attached the slides (*) that we are currently using in our proposal and request activities addressed to the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology regarding the formulation of the 7th Science, Technology and Innovation Basic Plan.

The public comment period is open until September 15th, so your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Please note that when entering your comments, select "Part 2, I, Field 2: Increasing the participation of women in policy and decision-making processes in all fields," and choose item "5." The page is page 31.
You can include up to three comments (1,000 characters each), so you might want to separate them by comment (for example, setting numerical targets for senior positions, and promoting the conversion of fixed-term positions to non-fixed-term positions).
To ensure that a statement regarding the promotion of gender equality in the science and technology fields is included, we kindly ask that you actively submit your comments through the public comment process.
