We are pleased to announce that the Animal Consciousness Conference will be held on Oct 21 and 22 2025 at Osaka Metropolitan University. Researchers from Japan and abroad will be invited to give presentations and engage in discussions on animal consciousness, cognition, and intelligence. We are now accepting applications for poster presenters and participants. Poster presentations are limited to the first 15 applicants. Participants who require accommodation are kindly asked to arrange their own reservations. The deadline for conference registration and presentation applications is Oct 6.

Purpose of the meeting
In recent years, "consciousness" has become an important topic in the fields of animal welfare and AI research, yet it remains a major unsolved problem across a wide range of academic disciplines. One of the reasons for this is the current reality that even the definition of "consciousness" differs among fields and researchers, which causes significant confusion in discussions. Therefore, the Osaka International Conference invites leading philosophers, behavioral ecologists, cognitive scientists, and neurophysiologists specializing in animal consciousness from Japan and abroad to clarify the relationship between "consciousness" and what is called "cognition and intelligence." By doing so, the conference aims to discuss the definition and research methods of "consciousness" in various animals, as well as its origins and evolution, and ultimately to reach a consensus on the definition of "consciousness." This conference is expected to be a globally groundbreaking international meeting in terms of transcending specialized fields to "approach the definition of consciousness."
