Information on the 2026 Individual and Development Research Grants

Our foundation provides grants for field-based biological research and studies concerning the morphology, development, physiology, taxonomy, phylogeny, ecology, behavior, and fisheries science of aquatic invertebrates (excluding insects).

(1) Individual Research Grant (1 year)
[Grant Period] April 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027
[Application Eligibility] There are no specific age or qualification restrictions as long as you reside in Japan. Individuals residing overseas who hold Japanese citizenship are also eligible.
We expect active applications from young and early-career researchers working at universities, research institutes, and similar organizations. Researchers who are not affiliated with research institutions or who have limited access to research facilities are also eligible.

(2) Development Research Grant (2 years)
[Grant Period] April 1, 2026 – March 31, 2028
[Application Requirements] Students who are enrolled in a graduate degree program in Japan during the academic year of the grant award (prospective enrollment at the time of application is also acceptable) and who can receive a recommendation from a faculty member supervising the proposed research project.
