Notice of the 56th Komaba Ecology Classroom / Satoshi Sakai & Yusuke Sato

I am Yusuke Notomi from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tokyo.
I am writing to announce that we will hold the Komaba Ecology Class on February 20, 2026.

Today, we will have presentations by Tadashi Sakai from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, and Yusuke Sato from the University of Tokyo.
Mr. Sakai has primarily researched animal personality, which arises during the developmental processes of amphibians and reptiles. Just as each human being is unique, individual animals also differ in morphology and behavioral tendencies, and the factors behind this range from genetic influences to those dependent on environmental conditions.
Mr. Sato has researched the evolution of reproductive modes using mathematical models. In environments where mating partners are limited, organisms evolve various strategies to secure reproductive opportunities. Today, he will talk to us about the evolutionary conditions and ecological consequences of three strategies: parasitic males, sperm storage function, and parthenogenesis.
Please enjoy this discussion on evolutionary ecology by two researchers who approach the common theme of animal "environmental adaptation" from different angles.
