Notice of Online Noryokai (Summer Festival) using Gather.town (7/30 20:00~)

Online Noryokai of the Zoological Society
~ Let's gather on Gather.town, which will be used for the Online Yonago Convention! ~

Headquarters of the Zoological Society of Japan / IT Committee / Online Yonago Convention Organizing Committee

Dear members of the Zoological Society, as summer approaches, the days are becoming truly warm.

Therefore, the Zoological Society will hold an event titled "Online Noryokai," where people gather on Gather.town—a video call system scheduled to be used at the upcoming online Yonago conference in September—to chat with each other while holding their favorite drinks (Free admission, no pre-registration required, walk-ins welcome on the day)。

This event has no specific academic theme (we can thoroughly enjoy that at the main conference); rather, it is a gathering for those who are available to meet online, experience the environment that will be used for the online conference, and deepen friendships among geographically distant members, which tend to be disrupted by COVID-19.

Whether you plan to participate in the online Yonago meeting in September, are still hesitating, or do not plan to participate at all, anyone is welcome to join. At this opportunity, we also warmly welcome you to invite non-members and draw them into the Zoological Society.

"I'm tired of Zoom drinking parties," "I want to talk with people from other universities,"
What is the system we're going to use for the upcoming tournament like?

So everyone, let's gather on Gather.town with your favorite drink in hand, as a way to hold our usual summer send-off party that we normally do in the lab!

Date and time:
Scheduled for about 2 hours starting at 20:00 on Friday, 7/30
(It has ended, but you can still enter as a demo space.)

How to participate:

Basic usage

        • Keyboard controls are primary. You can move around the demo space using the up, down, left, and right arrow keys.
        • When you approach various objects embedded in the space (such as monitors or screens), their surroundings are outlined in yellow. By pressing the X key there, you can view links to other websites, videos, and more.
        • You can make video calls with people nearby. Similar to Zoom and Microsoft Teams, you can use chat (the speech bubble icon on the left side of the screen) and screen sharing (the monitor icon at the bottom of the screen).
        • When there are many people in the area and it is difficult to hear voices, please try moving to a table or a bench. We have set up many “private areas” so that you can converse only with the people at the same table or bench.
        • See below for detailed instructions on how to use.
