The Fisheries Invertebrate Research Institute provides grants focusing on field-based biological research and studies concerning the morphology, development, physiology, taxonomy, phylogeny, ecology, and behavior of aquatic invertebrates (excluding insects).
Applications for research and studies focusing on living organisms themselves, as well as research on minor biological groups and fields, are also welcome.

(1) Individual Research Grant (1 year)
[Grant Period] April 1, 2024 - March 31, 2025
[Application Requirements] There are no specific age or qualification restrictions as long as you reside in Japan. Japanese citizens residing overseas are also eligible.
We welcome active applications from early-career researchers, including those working at universities and research institutes. Researchers who are not affiliated with a research institution and have limited access to research facilities are also eligible to apply.

(2) Development Research Grant (2 years)
[Grant Period] April 1, 2024 - March 31, 2026
[Application Requirements] Students enrolled in a graduate program in Japan during the academic year of the award (prospective enrollment at the time of application is also acceptable) who can obtain a recommendation from their graduate school research advisor or an equivalent person.

Application deadline: Sunday, January 7, 2024, until 23:59 (Submit the application form as an email attachment)
