■ Meeting Overview
Retinal proteins are a group of proteins that use retinal as a prosthetic group. In nature, there are various retinal proteins, such as rhodopsin, which is a photoreceptor protein responsible for animal vision, as well as light-driven pumps, light sensors, and light-driven channels in microorganisms. These play important roles in light information conversion and light energy conversion in animals and microorganisms. Retinal proteins also attract significant interest from an applied perspective as model proteins for G protein-coupled receptors and as primary tools for optogenetics. The International Conference on Retinal Proteins (ICRP) is the largest international conference in this field, held every two years, where a wide range of discussions takes place, from the structure, function, and mechanisms of retinal proteins to their applications in optogenetics.
