Call for Applications: 2025 (20th) L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Japan Fellowship
1. Purpose:
Upholding the philosophy of the global joint project by the L'Oréal Group and UNESCO to support women in scientists, we encourage young female researchers who will lead the future to continue their research at domestic educational and research institutions.
2. Target:
Targeted at women under 40 years of age (as of the application deadline of March 31, 2025) who are currently enrolled in or planning to enroll in a doctoral program in Japan in the fields of life sciences or material sciences.
3. Number of scholarship awards:
We will select a total of four recipients (four individuals), two recipients (two individuals) per year in principle from the fields of life sciences and material sciences, and present them with a certificate of merit and a scholarship of 1 million yen.
4. Application period:
From Friday, December 20, 2024, to Monday, March 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM
5. How to apply:
Please send the required documents listed below by e-mail to the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Japan Fellowship Secretariat. Please store all the required documents together in a single folder, password-protect the folder when sending it, and use the file transfer service recommended by your university or institution if the total size exceeds 10 MB.
If password setup is not possible with a personal e-mail, the academic advisor's or university's e-mail may be used instead.

The 2025 20th "L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Japan Encouragement Award" can be downloaded from the application start date (December 20 or later).
b) Resume (free format, with a passport-sized ID photo attached)
c) Letter of recommendation from an academic advisor
d) Summary of Previous Research (A4 size, 2 pages or fewer)
Please include both the Japanese and English research title and abstract (500 Japanese characters / 200 English words) in the * and the attached document (A4 size, within 1 page).
e) Research topic for the coming year, including a summary and future prospects (A4 size, no more than 2 pages)
f) List of published papers (including oral presentations) List all authors whenever possible
For papers where the applicant is not the first author, please clearly state the job title of the first author (at the time of publication) and the applicant's contribution percentage.
g) Offprints of the article
g-1) Published and forthcoming papers (with acceptance letters attached): Up to 3 papers g-2) Conference presentation papers (abstracts)
* If there are no documents falling under g-1) or g-2) above, a master's thesis may be used as a substitute.
If there are multiple papers, please combine them into a single PDF.

6.Selection process:
Following the first screening (document review), the second screening (an in-person interview scheduled to take place at the Nihon L'Oréal K.K. Shinjuku office), and a rigorous evaluation by the selection committee, we will notify applicants of their acceptance or rejection between mid-July and August 2025.
7. Award Ceremony:
After notifying you of the decision, an award ceremony will be held in the Kansai region (scheduled for October 2) to officially announce the winners. (*Attendance at the ceremony is mandatory for winners.)
