Supported by MEXT and JST: Information on the 2025 Bioinformatics Engineer Certification Exam

To Whom It May Concern

The Japanese Society for Bioinformatics will hold the 2025 Bioinformatics Engineer Certification Examination under the following guidelines. This year, it will also be held twice.
*Applications for the first exam will be accepted from Monday, April 14, 2025 to Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Successful applicants can apply for the passing benefit of "exemption from the 2026 JSBi admission fee and free annual membership dues." This benefit also applies to those who are already JSBi members.
For details, please visit the JSBi Certified Examination website ( https://www.jsbi.org/activity/nintei/2025 See ).

Please note that the application deadline is earlier this year. Depending on the prefecture, venues may fill up quickly due to a limited number of locations, so we recommend applying as early as possible. Cancellations cannot be made after application, but date and time changes can be made as many times as needed.

1. Overview of Certification Exam
──┴───────────────────────────────
With the advent of an era where genome analysis generates massive amounts of data, bioinformatics has developed rapidly.
Although the demand for engineers and researchers with a well-balanced knowledge of life sciences and information science is rapidly expanding, and while the training of bioinformatics professionals was actively promoted through the early 2000s, the current reality is that few initiatives have been sustained up to the present day.

This certification exam is designed to demonstrate that successful candidates possess foundational knowledge ranging from basic to advanced concepts, and are personnel whose aptitude for related work has reached a certain level.
Even in Society 5.0, bioinformatics is considered a key technology closely related to medical and healthcare IT. In the industry, passing this exam is required for bidding on bioinformatics-related projects and for employment, and it is utilized by companies that place a strong emphasis on employee development.
Furthermore, this exam is designed to serve as a guideline for students and the general public when studying bioinformatics, and also functions as an entry point for education, including recurrent education.
One of our society's goals is to enhance these effects through measures such as making it a national qualification.

This year, the exam will also be held twice, and the implementation period for each exam has been extended.
We look forward to many applications.

Please note that the application deadline is earlier this year. Depending on the prefecture, venues may fill up quickly due to a limited number of locations, so we recommend applying as early as possible. Cancellations cannot be made after application, but date and time changes can be made as many times as needed.
