We are seeking one researcher (equivalent to a postdoctoral fellow) to promote the HFSP (Human Frontier Science Program)-funded international collaborative research project, “A molecular roadmap for the emergence of air breathing” (Evolution and developmental mechanisms of the labyrinth organ).

This project is an innovative and interdisciplinary research endeavor selected through international competition, conducted as a joint project among three countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, and Japan). Takayuki Ona serves as the Japanese Principal Investigator (PI). Collaborating with researchers from multiple countries, the project aims to elucidate the origin and evolutionary formation process of the labyrinth organ—specialized for air breathing in paradise fish—through comparative embryology, molecular biology, and morphological analysis.

We welcome candidates with expertise in fields such as developmental biology, evolutionary biology, genomic biology, and taxonomy, along with experience in molecular experiments and the manipulation of model organisms. We are looking for individuals capable of writing academic papers in English and conducting international collaborative research.
