This grant program was established in 2021 by four genome-editing startups and has been operated by the Smart Breeding Council since 2023.
It covers a wide range of research phases, from basic research to applied research.

Application Requirements

Young researchers (students are eligible; no age limits or similar restrictions apply) who have a concrete plan to independently invent and develop outstanding technologies related to genome editing and breeding.

Individuals affiliated with research institutions in Japan or conducting research activities in Japan

- Grant amount: Up to 3 million yen per project (may exceed the limit if multiple courses are selected)
●Number of grants: Approx. 10
●Use of grant funds:
(1) Costs directly required for the implementation of the target project
(2) Including personnel costs for the applicant and co-researchers
(3) No restrictions regarding the budget year or research implementation period
