Call for Applications: 21st L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Japan Fellowships (FY2026)

1. Purpose:
Upholding the philosophy of the global joint project by the L'Oréal Group and UNESCO to support women in scientists, we encourage young female researchers who will lead the future to continue their research at domestic educational and research institutions.
2. Target:
In the fields of life sciences and material sciences, eligible applicants are women under 40 years of age who, as of the application deadline (February 27, 2026), are enrolled in a doctoral program in Japan, or are scheduled to enroll in a doctoral program the following year (expected to complete their current program and officially decided to advance to a "doctoral program" in the next academic year).
3. Number of scholarship awards:
Each year, two recipients (two individuals) are selected from each of the fields of life sciences and material sciences, for a total of four recipients (four individuals), who will be presented with a certificate and a scholarship of 1 million yen.

Please send it via e-mail to the Japan Encouragement Award Secretariat. After storing all the necessary documents listed below in a single folder, please password-protect the folder when sending it. If it exceeds 10MB, please use the file transfer service recommended by your university or institution.
If password setup is not possible with a personal e-mail, the academic advisor's or university's e-mail may be used instead.

6.Selection process:
Following the 1st screening (document review), 2nd screening (hearing - scheduled to be held in person at the L'Oreal Japan Shinjuku office), and a rigorous review by the selection committee, we will notify you of the final decision regarding your application around mid-2026.
7. Award Ceremony:
After notifying you of the selection results, an awards ceremony will be held in Tokyo to officially announce the winners. (*It is scheduled to be held between August and September. *Winners are required to attend the ceremony.)
