Notice of Student Recruitment for Open Marine Practical Training "Sado / International Marine Practical Training Course"

The Sado Marine Biological Station, Institute for Nature and Environmental Technology, Niigata University, will hold an open marine practical course entitled "International Marine Biology Course" as outlined below. This practical course is held jointly with the "International Marine Biology Course," which invites faculty members and students from universities in the Asian region, and Niigata University's "Sado Nature and Environment International Practical Training." Lectures and explanations will basically be conducted in English, with Japanese support provided as needed. We look forward to the participation of undergraduate and graduate students from all over the country.

[Target] Undergraduate and graduate students
The content of the practical training will be marine biology, but no prior coursework or experience in lectures related to this is required.
Students at national universities will receive credit for Marine Practical Training II (1 credit) through the credit transfer system.
Auditing certificates will be issued to students of public and private universities.

In this practical training, using Sado's rich waters, which boast exceptionally high transparency nationwide, we will observe and identify organisms collected through various methods, including snorkeling in the rocky shores, while learning about the diversity and evolution of marine life.
Sado Island well preserves diverse coastal environments and their associated marine life ecosystems. In addition, because of its location in the Sea of Japan, the tidal range is small, allowing visitors to observe intertidal ecology and distribution patterns that differ from those on the Pacific side.
For the practical training conducted jointly with overseas students, lectures and explanations will be conducted in English as a general rule.

4) Collecting sea fireflies and observing their luminescence on the sandy beach

[Meeting/Disbanding] Saturday, September 21, around noon, meet at the Sado Kisen Ferry Terminal at Ryotsu Port, Sado Island (tentative)
Disbandment (scheduled) on Wednesday, September 25, morning, at the Sado Kisen ferry terminal at Ryotsu Port on Sado Island.

[Fee] Tuition is not charged.
During the training period, approximately 10,000 yen in total will be required for meals, sheet cleaning fees, and miscellaneous expenses.
Additionally, participants are responsible for their own transportation expenses to Ryotsu Port on Sado Island. Transportation costs within Sado Island are covered, as chartered buses or Sado Rinkai shared vehicles will be used.
