Introduction
The 94th Annual Meeting of the Zoological Society of Japan will be held for three days from Thursday, September 7 to Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Kojirakawa Campus of Yamagata University in Yamagata City. The venue is about 10 minutes by bus from JR Yamagata Station and about 40 minutes by bus from Yamagata Airport.
All general presentations will be oral presentations. As this is a great opportunity for students to give oral presentations as well, we strongly encourage active abstract submissions. The conference registration fee for students presenting an abstract will be a flat rate of 2,000 yen. In addition, we hope to hold as many open-application symposia and related meetings as possible. While we have already started accepting applications, we look forward to submissions from many of our members. We hope that many of you will participate and help make this conference a great success.
The coronavirus infection situation continues to cycle between expansion and containment. The organizing committee is flexibly responding to the changing conditions and proceeding with preparations to hold the academic conference in a format as close to normal as possible, while taking thorough infection prevention measures.
Yamagata is a region blessed with an abundance of fresh ingredients. Please enjoy Yamagata's culinary culture, represented by Yonezawa beef, Japanese sake, wine, and imoni.

5. Symposiums and related meetings
For this tournament, the deadline for submitting proposals for symposia and related meetings is Friday, March 31, 2023. Information has been posted on the website and submissions are already open, so please check there for details. https://www.zoology.or.jp/annual-meeting/3/information/2164/ ）
Please note that while we plan to accommodate many open-call symposia and related meetings, the number of available venues and time slots is limited, so we may not be able to meet all requests.
6. General Presentations
All general presentations will be oral presentations and will be held on the first and third days of the conference (morning and afternoon on both days). Presentation guidelines will be posted on the conference website.
Oral presentations will be conducted by projecting the screen of the presenter's own computer via Zoom from an LCD projector (prepared by the organizing committee). Access to Zoom must be done individually in the presentation room during the break immediately before the presentation. Access assistants will be stationed in each room, so please feel free to ask for help if needed.
General presentations as the main presenter (oral presentation speaker) are limited to one per person. Presentations are restricted to members of the Zoological Society of Japan, so non-members must join the society. Membership application and dues payment procedures can be found on the Zoological Society of Japan website ( https://www.zoology.or.jp/about/registration Please start from the parenthesis.
Even for members, those who have unpaid membership dues up to the 2022 academic year (July 2021 to June 2022) cannot present, so please apply for a presentation after paying your dues.
7. How to participate in the conference and register abstracts
Applications must be made online in principle. If you are unable to use the internet, please contact the Tournament Executive Committee ( zoology_yamagata [at] googlegroups.com ).
Applicants wishing to participate should visit the tournament website ( https://www.zoology.or.jp/annual-meeting/3/ ), and complete your registration (a Zoological Society of Japan membership number is required for registration). The conference website can be found on the Zoological Society of Japan website ( https://www.zoology.or.jp/ is also linked from ). The registration site is scheduled to be released around mid-April. We will contact you again when registration becomes available.
Once you have entered the required information and completed the payment of the registration fee by credit card, a registration ID will be issued and displayed on the screen. The registration ID is required when submitting an abstract, so be sure to print and keep it.
The deadline for abstract submission is noon on Friday, June 2, 2023, and modifications are possible until noon on Friday, June 9, 2023.
Online registration and payment of the participation fee will be accepted until Friday, August 18. On-site registration is also available and will be handled at the venue.
Undergraduate and graduate students who do not give a presentation and wish to attend must register on the day of the conference at the venue reception desk (membership numbers for the Zoological Society of Japan are not required for registration).
A questionnaire regarding accommodation will be conducted from the registration screen on the conference website. The questionnaire is for receiving subsidies from local governments, and the provided information will not be used for any other purposes. It is essential for setting up the Zoom environment, reducing student membership fees, and implementing COVID-19 infection control measures, so we kindly ask for everyone's cooperation.

Conference registration is free for undergraduate and graduate students who are not presenting.

Please pay the conference registration fee and banquet fee by credit card after completing your registration. Cards in a name other than the participant's may also be used. Information such as the cardholder's name and number will be used solely for credit card payment, and neither the Zoological Society of Japan nor the Yamagata Meeting Executive Committee will have access to these data.
You can cancel your participation in the conference until Friday, August 25. If you must cancel your participation, please notify the Zoological Society of Japan Secretariat (zsj-society [at] zoology.or.jp). Please note that registration and banquet fees cannot be refunded for cancellations made after this date.

10. High School Student Presentation
A poster presentation of biological research by high school students will be held on the third day of the conference (Saturday, September 9). Middle school and elementary school students may also present as co-authors alongside high school students. Details will be posted on the conference website under "High School Presentations."
11. Public Symposium / Zoology Plaza
The public symposium, "Stories of Changing Animals: Have you noticed the lives of animals around us?", will be held in the afternoon of the third day of the conference (Saturday, September 9). In addition, the Zoology Plaza will be open from the morning of the third day of the conference (Saturday, September 9). Further details will be posted sequentially on the conference website.
12. Nursery
A childcare room will be established during the conference. A "Childcare Survey of Interest" will be conducted in July, followed by a final call for childcare requests in late August. Contracts will be concluded directly between the users and the childcare contractor. Please note that the conference will subsidize up to half of the childcare fees, but the subsidy rate may vary depending on the usage status of the childcare room.
13. Social gathering
on the evening of the second day of the conference (Friday, September 8), at the Yamagata Kokusai Hotel ( https://www.kokusaihotel.com ) will be held. If you are bringing a guest, please also pay the guest's social gathering fee upon registration. We look forward to the participation of many conference attendees. The format of the event may be affected by the status of the coronavirus infection around the time of the conference. Details will be announced via the conference website and other channels as necessary.
14. Accommodations, etc.
Accommodation is concentrated around JR Yamagata Station and the competition venue, but congestion is expected as the Imoni-kai (taro potato stew party) season is approaching. We recommend booking your accommodation early. You can use the accommodation reservation site from the competition website until early July.
