To the Members of the Zoological Society of Japan
The 97th Annual Meeting will be held for three days from Thursday, September 3 to Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Hokkaido University's Sapporo Campus. All general presentations will be oral presentations.
We hope that all members, including many student members, will participate in the Sapporo Conference and further broaden their knowledge, networks, and horizons.
On the third day of the conference (Saturday, September 5), general public events (free admission) will be held, including the "Public Symposium: What's Next for Hokkaido's Animals? - Animals 20 Years from Now -," "High School Poster Presentations," and the "Zoology Plaza." Members are also warmly encouraged to participate.
According to the Regional Brand Survey 2025, Hokkaido is the most attractive prefecture for the 17th consecutive year since the survey began in 2009. Sapporo, the central city of Hokkaido, is a large metropolis with a population of over 1.9 million, yet it serves as the political, economic, and cultural hub of Hokkaido, blessed with abundant nature. The food culture utilizing ingredients produced in Hokkaido is one of Sapporo's attractions. There is an abundance of delicious food, such as fresh seafood, plentiful fruits, and stylish sweets. In addition, the Hokkaido Government Office Building (Red Brick Office Building), one of the famous sightseeing spots, completed large-scale renovation work and reopened in July 2025.
Not only in science, the organizing committee is committed to doing its utmost to ensure that everyone fully enjoys autumn in Sapporo and Hokkaido. We hope that many people will participate in the Sapporo Congress.

3. Transportation
Take the JR Hokkaido Rapid Airport train, get off at JR Sapporo Station, and arrive at the main gate after about a 7-minute walk from the North Exit. Alternatively, you can take the airport bus. The Academic Exchange Hall, where the open symposium will be held, is located next to the main gate. The Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education, where general presentations, the Zoology Plaza, and high school presentations will take place, is about a 15-minute walk from the main gate. If using the subway, get off at Kita 18-jo Station on the Namboku Subway Line and arrive after about a 10-minute walk. Please refer to the conference website under "Venue Information & Access."

5. Call for Symposia and Related Meetings
As previously announced, we are now accepting proposals for symposia and related meetings. Symposia and related meetings at the Sapporo meeting are scheduled to be held in 2.5-hour time slots on the evening of the first day and the morning of the second day of the conference. If you wish to host a session, please fill out the required information on the application website below and submit your request by Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

6. General Presentations
General presentations at this conference are oral presentations only (approximately 500 abstracts). Oral presentations will be held across the first and third days. Presentation guidelines will be posted on the conference website.
Each person is limited to one presentation as the primary presenter. Presentations are restricted to members of the Zoological Society of Japan, so non-members must join the Zoological Society of Japan and pay their membership dues before applying to present. Procedures for joining and paying dues can be found on the Zoological Society of Japan website ( http://www.zoology.or.jp/member/index.asp Please start from ).
Even if you are a member, those who have not paid their membership dues up to Reiwa 7 (2025) cannot present, so please apply for a presentation after paying your dues.
7. How to participate in the conference and register abstracts
Applicants wishing to participate should visit the tournament website ( https://www.zoology.or.jp/annual-meeting/3/ ) and complete your registration (to register for general presentations, a Zoological Society of Japan membership number is required). The convention website is on the Zoological Society of Japan website ( https://www.zoology.or.jp/ ) is also linked. The registration and abstract submission sites are scheduled to be released around mid-April. We will notify you again once applications become available.
Once you have completed entering the required information and paying the registration fee by credit card on the registration site, a registration ID will be issued and displayed on the screen. The registration ID is required when submitting an abstract, so please be sure to print it out and keep it in a safe place.
The deadline for abstract submission is noon on Friday, May 29, 2026, and modifications can be made until noon on Friday, June 5, 2026.
Online registration and payment of the participation fee will be accepted until Friday, August 14. On-site registration is also available and will be handled at the convention venue.
Undergraduate and graduate students wishing to attend without presenting a paper can register at the venue reception on the day of the conference (membership numbers of the Zoological Society of Japan are not required for registration).
8. Participation Fee and Social Gathering Fee
The participation fee is set in three tiers. Undergraduate and graduate students without presentation of papers may attend free of charge.

Registration Fee: General Member ¥9,000, Student Member ¥2,000, Non-member ¥11,000
Social gathering fee: Regular member 9,000 yen, Student member 4,000 yen, Non-member 11,000 yen
If payment is made by Friday, May 29
Participation fee: General members 10,000 yen, Student members 2,000 yen, Non-members 12,000 yen
Social gathering fee: Regular members 10,000 yen, Student members 5,000 yen, Non-members 12,000 yen
In case of payment on or after Saturday, May 30
Registration fee: General Member: 12,000 yen, Student Member: 2,000 yen, Non-member: 14,000 yen
Banquet fee: General member 12,000 yen, Student member 5,000 yen, Non-member 14,000 yen
Please pay the conference registration fee and banquet fee by credit card after completing your registration. Cards in a name other than that of the participant may also be used. Information such as the cardholder's name and card number will be used solely for credit card payment, and neither the Zoological Society of Japan nor the Sapporo Meeting Executive Committee will have access to this data.
Cancellation of conference participation is available until Friday, August 21. 9. High School Student Poster Presentations
Poster presentations of biological research by high school students (including elementary and junior high school students) will be held on the third day of the conference (Saturday, September 5) at the Academic Affairs Pavilion of the Hokkaido University Sapporo Campus, Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education. Details are available on the conference website under "Elementary, Junior High, and High School Student Poster Presentations." Those wishing to present should apply via the "Elementary, Junior High, and High School Student Research Presentation Application Form" on the same page. Further details will be posted on the conference website as they become available.
10. Public Symposium: Zoology Plaza
The open symposium will be held on the afternoon of the third day (Saturday, September 5) in the Small Auditorium of the Hokkaido University Sapporo Campus Academic Exchange Hall. The Zoology Plaza will be held on the third day (Saturday, September 5) in the Education Building of the Hokkaido University Sapporo Campus Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education. Further details will be posted on the conference website as they become available.
11. Nursery
A childcare room will be established during the conference. A "Childcare Survey of Interest" will be conducted in July, followed by a final call for childcare requests in late August. Contracts will be concluded directly between the users and the childcare contractor. Please note that the conference will subsidize up to half of the childcare fees, but the subsidy rate may vary depending on the usage status of the childcare room.
12. Social gathering
The banquet will be held on the evening of the second day of the conference (Friday, September 4) at the Hokkaido University HBA Lilac Cafeteria (Northern Cafeteria, adjacent to the conference venue). If you are accompanied by a guest, please also pay the banquet fee for your guest during registration.
