Notice of Student Recruitment for Open Marine Practical Training "Sado / International Marine Practical Training Course"

The Sado Marine Biological Station, Institute for Nature and Environmental Technology, Niigata University, will hold an open marine practical course entitled "International Marine Biology Course" as outlined below. This practical course is held jointly with the "International Marine Biology Course," which invites faculty members and students from universities in the Asian region, and Niigata University's "Sado Nature and Environment International Practical Training." Lectures and explanations will basically be conducted in English, with Japanese support provided as needed. We look forward to the participation of undergraduate and graduate students from all over the country.

[Target] Undergraduate and graduate students
The content of the practical training will mainly be marine biology, but no prior coursework or experience related to these topics is required.
Undergraduate students at national universities will receive credit for Marine Practical Training II (1 credit) through the credit transfer system.
Auditor certificates are issued to graduate students of national universities, as well as students of public and private universities.

[Practical Training Content] (Subject to change depending on weather conditions.)
In this practical training, utilizing the rich waters of Sado, which boast exceptionally high transparency nationwide, we observe and identify organisms collected through various methods, including rock-shore snorkeling, while learning about marine biodiversity and its evolution. Sado Island well-preserved diverse coastal environments and their associated marine ecosystems. Additionally, because it is located in the Sea of Japan and has a small tidal range, we can observe the ecology and distribution patterns of intertidal organisms that differ from those on the Pacific side. Furthermore, through collecting marine microplastics and touring facilities related to the crested ibis reintroduction project, we learn about the relationship between human activities and ecosystems, deepening our understanding of the importance of marine environmental conservation and sustainable development.
For the practical training conducted jointly with overseas students, lectures and explanations will be conducted in English as a general rule.

4) Collecting sea fireflies and observing their luminescence on the sandy beach

Introduction to Nature Restoration Initiatives
Visit to facilities related to the Crested Ibis reintroduction project and field surveys of Crested Ibis habitats
Discussion and Presentation

Lecture
Lectures on marine biology and marine environmental issues by faculty members invited from Japan and overseas

[Fee] Tuition is not charged.
Approximately 11,500 yen in total will be charged for facility usage fees (accommodation), meals, and linen cleaning during the training period.
Additionally, participants are responsible for their own transportation expenses to Ryotsu Port on Sado Island. Transportation costs within Sado Island are covered, as chartered buses or Sado Rinkai shared vehicles will be used.
